Our Church Distinctivness

‘Shining light on a world of possibilities’

Taken from John 10:10

‘So that they may have life in all its fullness’

“We are a school built on Christian values, where everyone is welcome, everyone is cared for, and everyone can shine.”

Christian Distinctiveness at St Andrews

At St Andrews School, our Christian distinctiveness is rooted in our theologically inspired vision, which shapes the life of our community and the experiences of all who learn and work here. We are proud to serve our whole community, welcoming families of all faiths and none, while ensuring that Christian values are central to our ethos, policies, and practices.

Christian distinctiveness is evident in:

  • Collective Worship: Daily opportunities for pupils and staff to gather, reflect, and explore the teachings of Jesus, linking them to real-life contexts. Worship is invitational, inclusive, and inspirational, enabling everyone to engage meaningfully at their own level.
  • Curriculum and Values: Our curriculum is underpinned by our Christian values Hope, Perseverance, Respect and Love. These values guide our relationships, behaviour expectations, and approach to learning.
  • Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural Development: We provide opportunities for pupils to reflect on big questions of life and faith, develop a sense of awe and wonder, and understand their responsibility to serve others.
  • Links with the Church and Community: Strong partnerships with our parish church and local clergy enrich our worship, festivals, and special services. We also serve our wider community through charitable action and social responsibility, living out our Christian vision in practical ways.
  • Inclusion and Flourishing: Inspired by the Church of England’s vision for education—“life in all its fullness” (John 10:10)—we aim for every child and adult to flourish academically, socially, and spiritually, regardless of background or belief.

Our distinctiveness is not about being separate but about being grounded in the Christian story, ensuring that faith, love, and service are lived out daily in a way that positively impacts all members of our school community .

Our Christian Distinctiveness

As a Church of England Voluntary Controlled school, our Christian values are at the heart of everything we do. We welcome all children and families, of all faiths and none, and our vision is that everyone can live and learn “life in all its fullness” (John 10:10).

You will see our distinctiveness in:

  • Daily collective worship that is inclusive, reflective, and inspiring.
  • A curriculum and school ethos shaped by Christian values Hope, Perseverance, Respect and Love
  • Links with our parish church, celebrating festivals and working closely with clergy.
  • A commitment to helping every child flourish academically, socially, and spiritually.

Our Christian foundation shapes who we are, how we treat one another, and how we serve our community.
