World Book Day 2024!

This year, our theme was 'Picture Books'. Children looked at one picture book in their class and created a piece of work around this. They talked about how picture books are important for all ages as they help develop children's imaginations and a love of reading. Below is some of the work they created. Each class also joined up with another class and shared their favourite books.

Year 5- Bramble class looking at the book 'Fear-a Brother Like no Other' and retold this story by creating their own pieces of artwork and piecing each part together to make a whole class film.

Harvest Service 2021

This afternoon we enjoyed our Harvest Service as part of our Collective Worship and heard poems written by our pupils all about fair farming practices, harvest around the world and fair distribution of crops and food into the community.

Huge thank you to everyone who donated food items for our school donation. If you would like to donate then there is still time as the donations are not being collected until tomorrow so please send your child in with items in the morning.

Thank you to Father Graham for attending the service.

Below are some photos from the service.

This activity is a perfect chance to challenge that idea, shooting a rocket high into the air by rapidly squashing a plastic bottle launcher. You'll never get this rocket into space – but some real rockets do go fast enough to prove the saying wrong.

We had a very exciting and interesting visit yesterday from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra!!

World Book Day 2020

The whole school enjoyed the visit of professional author, Dan Metcalf. Dan worked with each class, leading workshops and answering questions about the life of an author. He also signed and sold a few books! Dan's 'Lottie Lipton' series is currently being enjoyed by Year 4.

Our new Reading Areas are looking great! We have also introduced a 'Reading Challenge' for each year group, consisting of some of the best children's fiction - old and new!

Some of you may have heard of 'Lost Words' (illustrated by Jackie Morris) which has become a very popular book. A recent crowd-funding scheme has meant that every primary school in Somerset has been presented with its own copy. There are fabulous illustrations and it's easy to see why it's taking schools by storm. Our copy has arrived! We also have a signed copy of The Snow Leopard, written and illustrated by Jackie Morris, who has left her own personal message. These two lovely books will be on display in the foyer.

Come and have a look at our 'Favourite Books' display. All the children have contributed. St Andrew's favourite authors include Jeff Kinney, JK Rowling, Roald Dahl, David Walliams and Francesca Simon. Have you spotted your favourite?
